Jeff Riggs, co-founder and Head of Baseball Instruction for Between the Lines

Jeff was a four-year starter in both soccer and baseball at East Catholic High School where he was an All-State selection in both sports.He served as captain for both teams his senior year and garnered several All-Conference awards. Jeff continued his education and baseball career as a scholarship athlete at Seton Hall University, where he started as a freshman. In his junior year, Jeff played an integral part in the team compiling a 45-10 record where they fell just short of playing in the college world series. Jeff still ranks in the top ten in several records for this esteemed baseball program. He was chosen to play in the Midwest League in the summer of 1986, and the prestigious Cape Cod League in 1987.

Jeff has spent the last seven years instructing professionally where he has found his true passion for teaching players of all ages. Jeff believes in building confidence while developing young local student athletes, and stresses the importance of fun in his training techniques. Jeff has devoted the last 10 years to coaching and instructing in local town youth programs in various sports. He has spent the last seven seasons coaching and administering the Old Lyme Little League girls softball program where he is dedicated to further enhancing the Little League experience. Jeff provides instruction & guidance for a number of elite level travel baseball & softball programs, in addition to being the director of our own program travel program, the BTL Tides.

 

Jim Kern, co-founder and Head of Football Instruction for Between the Lines

Jim was a 3-sport athlete in high school earning 6 varsity letters in Football, Track and Wrestling from York, Pennsylvania. He was a captain of the football team which won the YCIAA Championship, received numerous honors including the YCIAA First Team All-Star on Defense and Offense, YCIAA Player of the Year Runner-up, Pennsylvania Mid-State Top 100, All-State Honorable Mention, and a Pennsylvania Big 33 nomination. He earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Connecticut. At UConn he played DE/DT and special teams as a freshman before suffering a career-ending knee injury the following year. He continued his studies and graduated from UConn in 1983.

Over the last 8 years, Jim has been actively involved as both coach and administrator in local youth sports programs such as the Valley Soccer Club, Essex Little League, Shoreline Cal Ripken and the Tri-Town Youth Football program.

In youth football he started as an assistant line coach in 2004 and was a head coach for 5 seasons coaching in 4 different divisions. In 2009, his team won the Shoreline Youth Football Conference (SYFC) 7th Grade Division Championship and was a semi-finalist in the American Youth Football Connecticut State Championship. In 2010 he lead his team back to the SYFC 8th Grade Championship game.  Jim also was the winning head coach of the Connecticut 2010 Youth All-State All-Star game sponsored by Football University & Eastbay. As an administrator, he served as President of Tri-Town Youth Football from 2008-2010.

Jim is a CIAC and USA Football certified coach, assisted in the past with the Randy Edsall Football Camp at the University of Connecticut and the JL Sports NFL Camp. He currently is a regional scout with Football University and is the head coach of the BTL Tides Winter Football team. He directs all of the football training programs at Between the Lines and stresses the benefits of teamwork, sportsmanship, hard work and commitment that football brings, along with having FUN.

 

Bryan Rembisz, Pitching Instructor

Bryan graduated from The Morgan School of Clinton in 2003 where he pitched two perfect games, was a two-time Connecticut All-State selection, Louisville Slugger preseason High School All-American and the CT Coaches Player of the Year in 2003.
Bryan went on to play baseball at The University of Vermont. During his time at UVM, Bryan was selected 2nd Team All-New England, was Senior Athlete of the Year in 2007 and was the only Division 1 player to start at both middle infield and starting pitcher.
In the spring of 2007, Bryan signed with The Traverse City Beach Bums of the Independent Frontier League where he went 10-1 with a 2.17 ERA in 26 games between 2007 and June 2008. In July of 2008, Bryan was signed by the Los Angeles Angels and sent to the Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League. In 2009, Bryan was promoted to the Class AA Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League where he spent the season as a reliever. In 2010, Bryan played for the Pensacola Pelicans of the American Association Independent League. 

 

Adam Taha, Baseball Instructor

Played Junior College baseball at Brookdale Community College of New Jersey (2004, 2005) and was rewarded a Division 1 scholarship to Central Connecticut State University (2006-2007). 

In 2005, JUCO team was ranked number 1 in NJCAA Division 2, won 33 games in a row and went to the Junior College World Series.  Captain of 2005 squad, averaged .366 in two seasons as a catcher, 3rd basemen and outfielder. While in Junior College, worked as a baseball instructor at Mike Condon School of Baseball Summer Camps.

In 2006 at CCSU, finished 4th on the team with a .331 batting average, first on the team in runs scored, Base on Balls and second on the team in On Base Percentage. Was named to the First Team All-NEC Tournament Team, and holds the all-time record for best batting average (.643) in NEC tournament play.  Played all 50 games and started 49. 

In 2007, finished 1st on the team with a .339 batting average, 1st in hits and runs scored and second in On Base Percentage.  Named 1st team All-Conference as a catcher.  Named Conference Player of the Week. Played and started in all 52 games.  Captain of the 2007 Squad.

Played on teams that won 3 league titles(2 at BCC and 1 at CCSU) and has been coaching and instructing amateur baseball throughout the state of Connecticut for the past 4 years.
